High blood pressure and diet

        HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND DIET
If you fast for ten to 14 days in accordance with instructions given in Chapter 2, your blood pressure will probably drop to normal in that period. After the fast is completed it is of great importance to adopt intelligent eating habits, if you wish to prevent the recurrence of high blood pressure.
Your diet should be a high natural carbohydrate—low animal protein diet, rich in fresh, raw vegetables and fruits, whole grain bread and unprocessed, whole-grain cereals, nuts and seeds, and low in animal fats. Milk consumption should be cut down, too, but moderate use of yogurt and homemade cottage cheese is allowed. All salt, coffee, alcohol, white sugar, white bread, sweets, strong spices, mustard, and cola and soda drinks, should be eliminated. Also, cut out all refined and processed foods and all fried and greasy foods. A British doctor, Bertrand P. Allinson, who has had wide experience in the treatment of high blood pressure, said the following in regard to the lacto-vegetarian diet suggested above: "My conclusions, based upon a large series of cases, are that dietetic treatment of the lacto-vegetarian type (with not too much stress on the lacto) relieves symptoms in most cases of high blood pressure, reduces the blood pressure in a large proportion of these and keeps the development of fatal complications in abeyance for a long while."
Avoid overeating; keep slim. Eat small meals; chew well. At least once a month fast a few days on fruits or juices. Better still-have a fruit day each week. This will give your heart the rest it deserves.
